James: It's not easy doing what I've done

There is no question that James Rodriguez is the sensation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. The Colombia No10 sank Uruguay with a brace on Saturday to take his country into the last eight for the first time and up his tally for the competition to five goals in four games, in which he has also served up two assists.

The 22-year-old is taking it all in his stride, happily posing for photos with everyone and attending one by one to the dozens of reporters who crammed into the mixed zone at the Maracana to talk to the man of the moment.

Appearances can be deceptive, however, for James is not a player who enjoys being the centre of attention off the pitch. Shy and reserved, the new darling of Colombian football is less than relaxed in front of the microphones, in stark contrast to his demeanour on the pitch, where he once again showed his character to inspire his team to victory over the Uruguayans.

It was a win he sealed himself, scoring both the evening’s goals, the first of them a spectacular effort that can lay claim to being the strike of the tournament so far.

“You always try to score goals like that in training, and I have to say it was nice to get one,” he told FIFA.com in typically understated fashion.

Though James might have been trying to play down his wonder strike, the fact is the watching world could see its brilliance for itself and savour his skill in chesting the ball down and thumping an unstoppable volley on the turn, from outside the box, and in off the crossbar, leaving Celeste keeper Fernando Muslera helpless.

Though Colombia had generated a good deal of expectation heading into the tournament, few expected any of their players to make a huge impact, especially in the absence of their injured talisman Radamel Falcao.

James has taken Brazil 2014 by storm, however, having already scored as many goals as Germany’s Thomas Muller did in winning the adidas Golden Boot at South Africa 2010, and in three games fewer.

His presence in the Colombia midfield has proved inspirational, as the Uruguayans can vouch for or indeed Japan, who were holding Los Cafeteros to a 1-1 draw in the group phase when James jumped off the bench to guide his side to a 4-1 win, which he rounded off by scoring the final goal.

Perfect timing
“It’s not easy to achieve what I’ve done, but my view is that when you have a dream and you really pursue it and picture things like this happening, then it can become a reality,” explained the toast of Colombia. “If you want something and you work hard for it, then it can happen.”

Though the midfielder has shown signs of his obvious class before, he is quite simply in the form of his life, making an international breakthrough that could not have come at a better time for his country.

As far as the player is concerned, coach Jose Pekerman is one of the people responsible for it making it happen.

“The boss has helped me improve in everything,” said James. “He talks to me a lot and it’s thanks to him that my tactical appreciation of the game has improved along with my mental strength.”

Now that Pekerman’s charges have advanced beyond the last 16 time for the first time – a burden that had been weighing them down ever since Carlos Valderrama and his talented cohorts were knocked out by Cameroon at the same stage at Italy 1990 – James is convinced they can kick on and achieve even more: “This squad wants to go far and we genuinely believe we can.”

The Colombians have certainly given themselves a challenge, with hosts Brazil barring their path to the semis in Fortaleza on 4 July.

Contemplating that task, the tournament’s leading scorer said: “We’ve made history and we want to carry on making it. We’ve got Brazil coming up now and we know they’re a tough team with great players. But we hope to beat them.”

Colombia’s army of fans will be hoping so too and that their new idol can come up with yet another virtuoso performance.

“Kennis Music Has Helped Me, But It Is Time To Move On

Jaywon has finally spoken about leaving Kennis music.

Though a lot of people have reported that the singer and his record label bosses are not in good terms which already made him leave the record label, Jaywon has more things to say.

He revealed that there was no fight between him and his boss, but it was only the right time for him to leave and be on his own.

My contract with them has expired he said; ‘I feel this is the best time for me to actually be on my own. I appreciate Kennis Music and will always do. Kennis did it for me and I’m grateful for that but the thing is my contract expired and I need to move on.

Vigilantes Kill Eight Boko Haram Members, Capture One Alive In Borno

A group of vigilante members armed with single-charged hunting rifles have intercepted a group of suspected Boko Haram members in Kwarangilam village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, in the early hours of June 16, 2014, Monday, and killed eight armed terrorists, PremiumTimes reports.

The group of gunmen started a raid on a peaceful village, located about 15km from the infamous Chibok town, around 3am. What Boko Haram members did not expect was an ambush by local defenders, also known as Civilian JTF.

The vigilante members were poorly armed, but they were able to confuse the terrorists and to make them flee, killing eight sect members and capturing one suspect alive. The terrorist was handed over to security operatives in Chibok town.

A spokesman of the Nigeria Vigilante Group, Muhammed Gava, confirmed the development to PremiumTimes reporter, tagged it as a successful operation.

“Our men in the area were aware of the attack and had taken cover to wait for them [Boko Haram gunmen].

“They started the attack by setting fire on houses, shops; and our men began to shoot from their hideouts, which the Boko Haram gunmen could not locate,” the spokesman narrated.

The attackers were force to abort the operations, as they lost their men and were confused by the properly-organised defence of the area.

One of the chiefs of the Civilian JTF, simply identified as Mr Tar lamented improper armament of the vigilantes, urged for provision of better weapons, as well as some necessary accessories, vehicles.

The vigilante commander insisted that the local defenders would be able to do their job much better if they received any of these.
It would be recalled thatsuccessful activities by vigilante membersin the neighbouring Adamawa State lead to liquidation and arrests of dozens Boko Haram members. In returnthe insurgents launch retaliation attacks on villages, during which they search for vigilante members.

Passengers Of Missing Malaysia Airlines Most Likely Died Of Suffocation, Latest Report Reveals

More than 100 days since Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 carrying 239 passengers and crew disappeared on 8 March, 2014, shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing, a new report has revealed that the passengers and crew of the Boeing 777 most likely died from suffocation.

According to the new report released by Australian officials on Thursday, 26 June, 2014, the passengers and crew of the ill fated flight mostly likely died through suffocation and coasted lifelessly into the ocean on autopilot.

In a 55-page report, the Australian Transport Safety Board outlined how investigators had arrived at this conclusion after comparing the conditions on the flight with previous disasters.

The report narrowed down the possible final resting place from thousands of possible routes, while noting the absence of communications and the steady flight path and a number of other key abnormalities in the course of the ill-fated flight.

“Given these observations, the final stages of the unresponsive crew/hypoxia event type appeared to best fit the available evidence for the final period of MH370′s flight when it was heading in a generally southerly direction,” the ATSB report said.

Australian officials also added that based on all the evidences they have gathered so far, the plane most likely crashed farther south into the Indian Ocean than previously thought, leading them to announce a shift farther south within the prior search area.

Investigators say what little evidence they have to work with suggests the plane was deliberately diverted thousands of kilometers from its scheduled route before eventually plunging into the Indian Ocean.

‘It is highly, highly likely that the aircraft was on autopilot otherwise it could not have followed the orderly path that has been identified through the satellite sightings.’

The search was narrowed in April after a series of acoustic pings thought to be from the plane’s black box recorders were heard along a final arc where analysis of satellite data put its last location.

But a month later, officials conceded the wreckage was not in that concentrated area, some 1,000 miles off the northwest coast of Australia, and the search area would have to be expanded.

“The new priority area is still focused on the seventh arc, where the aircraft last communicated with satellite. We are now shifting our attention to an area further south along the arc,” Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss told reporters in Canberra.

Truss said the area was determined after a review of satellite data, early radar information and aircraft performance limits after the plane diverted across the Malaysian peninsula and headed south into one of the remotest areas of the planet.

The next phase of the search is expected to start in August and take a year, covering some 60,000 sq km at a cost of $56 million or more. The search is already the most expensive in aviation history.

The new priority search area is around 2,000 km west of Perth, a stretch of isolated ocean frequently lashed by storm force winds and massive swells.

Two vessels, one Chinese and one from Dutch engineering company Fugro, are currently mapping the sea floor along the arc, where depths exceed 5,000 meters in parts.

Charleyboy Confronts Okorocha At Father’s Burial

At the yesterday’s burial service of Supreme court justice Chukwudifu Oputa, his son Charles, better known under the name Charly Boy, stopped Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha from speaking.

According to Leadership, the musician was infuriated and jumped from his seat to snatch the microphone from the governor’s hands, when the latter was to pay tribute to the late judge at the Sacred heart catholic church, Oguta.

Although it was Rev-Fr Mathew Kukah, who had granted Okorocha the right of speech while officiating at the service, Charly Boy could not tolerate it.

Vanguard reports that many eminent Nigerians were present at the church, including the representative of President Goodluck Jonathan. It is said that the governor, following the humiliation he had been caused, immediately stormed out of the church accompanied by his aides.

Why did Charly Boy’s negative towards Okorocha came from?

The musician was sure that Okorocha would use his father’s burial for "cheap political" goals. It is also believed that the conflict is connected with the fact that the Imo government had allegedly given the Oputa family N20 million to assist with the service organization. However Saturday Vanguard learnt that the family of the deceased never received this money.

Meanwhile Imo authorities characterized Charly Boy’s actions as "ugly" saying that he had turned the service into a "political theater". The state leadership also insisted that the government had made "substantial financial input".

It would be recalled that in one of the pre-burial interviews the musician warned politicians against using the service for their political advantage adding that he would embarrass anybody who would try to do so.

486 Boko Haram Suspects Reportedly Arrested In Abia State

Nigeria army reportedly arrested hundreds of suspected Boko Haram insurgents (pictured below) in Abia State
According to the fresh report by The Cable, soldiers of the 144 battalion of the Nigerian Army, Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, carried out the arrest along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

It was provided that 33 buses conveying 486 people were stopped, while some more buses sped off and managed to drive away. Those detained are believed to be Boko Haram militants, however military are yet to establish a link between them and the sect. The people pleaded not guilty saying they had come from the country north in search for jobs.

Confirming the information to the journalists the battalion commander Lt. Colonel Rasheed Omolori said 2 buses escaped adding that the incident was reported to defence headquarters located in Abuja. No other details were provided by the military official.

The commissioner for information and strategy, Dr. Eze Chikamnayo, who also attended the briefing, wondered why such a "long convoy" had not been stopped before reaching Abia and considered the sheer size of the movement suspicious.

Military and state officials claimed that the investigation into the arrest had started.

It would be recalled that the yesterday’s rumour said that the insurgents had planted explosives in trailers in Aba city of the state, which IEDs were discovered by local vigilantes. This caused panic among the residents that Boko Haram violence might have spread to the country south.

Luiz Suarez Denies Biting Giorgio Chiellini

More than 48 hours after football by governing body, FIFA, slammed Luis Suarez with a four month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini, the Uruguayan striker has finally come out to speak on what happened between him and the Italian defender.

Television pictures had shown that the Uruguay striker committed his third biting offence in four years during Tuesday’s World Cup match against Italy.

But Suarez claims there is no way he would deliberately bite Chiellini, saying he ‘lost his balance’ and ‘in no way’ bit Chiellini.

Suarez will miss tonight’s last 16 tie against Colombia, but in the written defence he submitted to FIFA,  he maintained his claim that the incident has been misunderstood.

"In no way [did] it happen how you have described, as a bite or intent to bite,’ the Liverpool man wrote.

He continued: "After the impact I lost my balance, making my body unstable and falling on top of my opponent.

"At that moment I hit my face against the player leaving a small bruise on my cheek and a strong pain in my teeth."

Suarez returned to Uruguay on Thursday night after FIFA gave their verdict, but was still given a hero’s welcome by fans who continue to stand by him.

Since FIFA announced the ban on Suarez, there have been reports that Liverpool is ready to sell the Uruguayan to Barcelona if the Spanish giants are ready to meet the asking price.

GOSPEL SINGER, KEFEE IS DEAD

Just like the late Dora Akunyili, the state of health of gospel singer, Kefee Obareki , popularly known as just 'Kefee', had been on the lips of well meaning Nigerians for a while now, but news filtering in this morning suggests she is not doing good or may have passed.

Sources told Pointblanknews.com that she passed in a Los Angeles Hospital last night.

The  Branama crooner had been really in a critical condition and from information gathered by Pointblanknews.com, , the six months pregnant singer was  diagnosed with   pre-eclampsia – pregnancy induced high blood pressure.

According to close friends this,  was noticed after She had embarked on a 14-hour flight to Chicago for an event but went into coma, forcing the plane to land in Los Angeles so that she could be urgently attended to.

Last week, unconfirmed sources reveal that  kefee, who had gone into a coma following her collapse on a flight to Chicago for an event regained consciousness .

Her husband Don Mohmoh of Star FM radio had confirmed her deteriorating health status when he went on twitter call on everyone to pray as the doctors had revealed that Kefee's condition was very critical

This is what a medical doctor in Nigeria, Dr Adeyefa, shedding more light on Kefee's condition, said couple of weeks ago  “Kefee is in a precarious situation because of the six months pregnancy. If the foetus had been nine months, the doctors would have removed the baby and saved the mother and child.

“As it is now, not only will the baby not survive because the carrier is in coma, Kefee may also lose her life from further complications. The chances of the mother surviving is narrow, while the kid has a narrower chance. I urge Nigerians to pray for her, that's all she needs.

Some even suggest her  her health trouble started after her jibe at COZA Pastor, Biodun.

According to speculations she took ill after she lambasted Pastor Biodun in an interview with Encomium brading him ' that so called Pastor”

Both fell out after the church cancelled a concert that was billed to feature Kefee. According to her, as she was about to leave for the airport, the PA to the Pastor called to cancel the show, and referred her to a publication that talked about her failed marriage to her ex, Alec Godwin.

She had said ” He said if i had seen a newspaper story concerning my ex husband Alec Godwin, i said yes, it is a scandal. And he said they dont want to have anything to do with me because of the scandal”

In 2011 Kefee was on tour in  Canada. The Sapele born singer  for three weeks  treated  fans to live music and her chereographed dances. Her official tour schedule included performances at Toronto 25th, Edmonton 3rd and Calgary 10th Dec.2011

Kefees who also toured  the US saw her perform alongside Grammy Award-winning artiste, India Arie and Tyrese Gibson at the African Festival of Arts in Chicago.

Kefee was a UN peace ambassador .

Army Opens More Training Schools To Curb Boko Haram

Maj- Gen. Mohammed Abubakar, Commandant, Infantry Corps, Armed Forces Command and Staff College of the Nigerian Army, Jaji, on Friday announced that the Nigerian Army has started a nationwide special training programme on combating insurgency for its officers and men.

*Nigerian Army Officers In Training
Speaking to newsmen in Kaduna at the inauguration of 1 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters Training School, the commandant said the training would improve the basic knowledge and skills of soldiers to enable them effectively curb insurgency.
He asserted that though the training schools have been in existence since the `70s, it became imperative to reopen them to enable the army train the multitude of its soldiers.
“We have introduced different aspects of training as the existing schools cannot cope with the increasing number of soldiers we are recruiting” Abubakar said. “So we deem it necessary to re-establish these schools at each division to help us give basic training for soldiers instead of waiting until they get to training schools in Jaji, Bauchi, Kachia”.
Responding also, Maj. - Gen. Kenneth Osuji, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, remarked that the schools would expand areas of training of soldiers and officers in each division.
“The establishment of these schools is going to provide the platform for more officers and soldiers to be trained” Osuji said. “We have training schools, but we want as much soldiers to be trained because if we rely on the schools, it will take a longer time for the large number of soldiers and officers to be trained. We have to get the basic training on some specialised skills”.
Boko Haram sect members have launched several offensive attacks in recent times, especially in the northeastern part of the country, leaving scores of people dead with properties worth billions of naira destroyed in their quest to establish a muslim nation.

Astronomers Discover New World Named: 'Mega Earth'

* The new world, 'Mega Earth' discovered* The new world, 'Mega Earth' discovered
Contrary to age long theory that there is no other all-solid planet except planet Earth, scientists think they may have found not just one, but three.
The new planet named 'Mega Earth', first spotted by NASA’s Kepler space telescope,  is reported to be about 2.3 times larger than Earth.
A follow-up observations of the planet, designated as Kepler-10c, show it has 17 times as much mass as Earth.
It is said to be filled with rock and other materials much heavier than hydrogen and helium.
“Kepler-10c is a big problem for the theory,” astronomer Dimitar Sasselov, director of the Harvard Origins of Life Initiative, told Discovery News. “It’s nice that we have a solid piece of evidence and measurements for it because that gives motivations to the theorists to improve the theory,” he said.
Scientists are not sure how mega-Earths, or their diminutive cousins, super-Earths, form, nor why our solar system has nothing in between the largest rocky planet, Earth, and the smallest gas giant, Neptune.
The finding of another type of rocky planet has implications in the search for life beyond Earth.
Kepler-10c, which has a diameter of about 18,000 miles, is one of two discovered around the sun-like star Kepler-10, located about 560 light years from Earth in the constellation Draco.
Its sister planet, Kepler-10b, was the first rocky planet found beyond the solar system.
The planets' parent star is much older than the sun, raising another question about how stars dating back to the earliest days of the universe pulled together the materials to form rocky planets, especially big ones.
"We thought that old stars don’t have enough solid material yet to form many rocky planets and hence habitable rocky planets around older stars would be scarce. Probably we were wrong about that. When we are thinking about searching for habitable planets, we shouldn’t discount the very old stars," Sassalov said.

Fabregas was photographed in London last week and is now with the Spain squad preparing for the World Cup.
Mundo Deportivo claim that Fabregas' agent Darren Dein has been instrumental in bringing his client back to the Premier League.
Dein had sounded out all the big clubs to alert them Fabregas might be available after a trophyless season at the Nou Camp.
Fabregas reportedly would have preferred a move back to Arsenal but when it became clear that was not a possibility, he was eager to stay in London.

Boko Haram Launch Fresh Attacks On 3 Borno Villages

Many people are feared killed in the attack launched on Attagara, Amuda and Ngoshe villages.
It would be recalled that Sunday morning the suspected Boko Haram terrorists stormed Attagara , but the group also lost 37 group militants after the locals quickly arranged the reprisal attack.

Referring to the source in the state capital Maiduguri, Punch reports that today the insurgents returned to take revenge on the villagers. According to the source, a lot of resident had fled before the attack in fear of terrorists' return.

"The fury was just too much as they virtually leveled every structure in the already desolate town... Many of our people have already fled to the top of the hill knowing that after the killing of the insurgents on Sunday, they (insurgents) would pay another visit."

Keshi Explains Why He Dropped Mba From 23-Man Squad

The Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has explained why he did not include Sunday Mba .
Sunday Mba is disappointed with not making 23-man squad

The list, which was made public on Monday, . Many lamented that Mba, who played key role in winning 2013 AFCON in South Africa, was dropped.
Speaking with Fifa.com Keshi attributed his decision to Mba not being hardworking enough ahead of the upcoming tournament.
"His lateness to camp contributed (to his missing out) but outside that he did not show the hunger, the fight, we expected from him. We have only two and half weeks to prepare for the World Cup and he was not giving us what we wanted. He was very relaxed and it was unlike him."
Meanwhile Sunday reacting to his absence in the list made no disguise of his feelings and took to Twitter to express his disappointment saying:
"Gutted to not make the 23 man team to the World Cup. Really wanted to fight & sweat for the glory of the team nd my beloved country."
According to Premium Times, Mba's days in the World Cup squad were counted after he had been late for the London camp ahead of the friendly against Scotland. It would be recalled that because of problems with travel documents the player was forced to return to France to make the necessary arrangements and only after that he reconnected with the team.

NIGERIAN TROOPS RECALLED FROM PEACEKEEPING MISSIONS IN MALI TO TACKLE BOKOHARAM

David Mark Explains Why Nigeria Ended Peacekeeping Mission In Mali

Senate President David Mark declared that the activities of Islamist Boko Haram sect had compelled the Federal Government to abort peacekeeping mission in Mali.
Nigerian-Army-in-Mali
* in Bamako, Mali, on January 18, 2013
Mark made this statement on July 2, 2014, Monday at a two-day retreat on Nigeria’s foreign policy.
The Senate President, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Sen. Anthony Manzo, admitted that Boko Haram insurgency had become a major challenge to Nigeria’s efforts at forging relationships with her French-speaking neighbours.
He further maintained that any government’s foreign policy was an extension of its domestic policy.
The event has been jointly organised by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos.
It would be recalled that according to the UN Security Council Resolution 2071, passed on October 12, 2012, ECOWAS agreed to send a total of 3,200 troops on a peacekeeping mission to Mali. Nigeria promised the biggest contribution .
However, due to rising wave of Boko Haram violence the Federal Government petitioned the UN secretary Ban Ki-moon and from the mission from August 2013. The troops were being under the state of emergency rule

50 College Diplomas With The Highest Pay

To put together the salary list, NerdScholar started with the top 100 national universities from US News & World Report’s list of top colleges plus the top 30 liberal arts schools from that list and cross-referenced those with data it culled from university career services that polled students about their salaries. It looked at starting salaries for the classes of 2011, 2012 and 2013 and averaged those numbers for each school. The list is far from comprehensive because many schools, like Harvard, Yale and Brown don’t release salary information. Those schools simply aren’t on the list. There are more than 4,500 degree-granting postsecondary institutions in the U.S. and NerdScholar only tracks a fraction of those. But we think the numbers are informative because they offer hard figures that show how much new grads from some of the nation’s top programs earn.
NerdScholar was able to get data for 184 specific schools within 57 institutions. It published the top 25 but it provided me with all of its data so I’ve listed the top 50 below. Our slide show highlights the top 10.
Many schools, like Carnegie Mellon, do a breakdown of salaries for schools within the university including computer science, engineering ($68,300) and business ($65,000). Not surprisingly, most of the top salary-getters have diplomas in those disciplines. But other schools like Princeton (No. 18 at $63,700), and Rice (No. 36 at $60,000) report salaries for the graduating classes as a whole, which include liberal arts, fine arts and social science majors. One standout, given the assumption that fine arts majors do poorly in the job market: graduates of Carnegie Mellon’s College of Fine Arts came in at No. 24 on the list with an average starting salary of $62,100. CMU’s humanities school, Dietrich College of Humanities & Social Sciences, also did well at No. 32, with an average starting salary of $60,700.
For the schools that provide no salary information, NerdScholar tracks other useful data. Click here, enter a school’s name, and you can see what percent of the undergraduate class is employed, what percent is in graduate school and the breakdown of which careers students are choosing. For instance at the University of Chicago, 51% of students reported that they were employed upon graduating, 20% were heading to grad school and 30% were looking for work. The top three professions for Chicago grads are finance/investing at 17%, education at 17% and health/medicine at 12%. NerdScholar’s tool lets you compare statistics at up to four schools at once.
Since the schools gather the numbers from students across the board, they are arguably more reliable than the self-reported salaries that make up the database for salary site PayScale whose controversial return-on-investment research I reported on yesterday. People give their salary info to PayScale in exchange for detailed salary data collected on the site, usually because they want a new job or a raise. That self-selects for folks who are not contented with the compensation in their current jobs. NerdScholar’s data comes from new grads across the board.
Those who found work upon graduation from one of the top 50 schools are in good shape: They’re making at least $56,000 a year.
Here is a list of the top 50 schools:
1. Carnegie Mellon University, School of Computer Science
Average salary: $89,800
2. California Institute of Technology

Apple Reveals iOS 8 With HomeKit, HealthKit

Several rumored additions were announced, from Shazam integration and a health app to a push for the "smart home."

iOS 8 Health
As expected, Apple today showed off a preview of its next-gen mobile operating system, iOS 8.
A number of rumored additions were in fact announced – from Shazam integration and a health-related app to a push for the "smart home." It is available to developers in beta now and will get a final release in the fall. It will be compatible with iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, and 5c, as well as iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, and both mini iPads.
With HomeKit, home automation firms can pair with the iPhone so that you can control the Internet of Things with your iOS device. Secure pairing means that only your iPhone can open the front door or unlock the garage, Craig Federighi, senior vice president of Software Engineering at Apple, said during his Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote.
You can also group devices and changes into scenes. So if you tell Siri, "get ready for bed," HomeKit will make sure that the garage door is closed, the thermostat is lowered, and lights are dimmed before you go to sleep.
Since iOS 7 was a huge upgrade from iOS 6, it's not surprising that iOS 8 doesn't get a huge makeover from a user interface point of view. Instead, Federighi showed off some tweaks to existing features.
Messages gets an update with predictive keyboard software, dubbed Quick Type. It's an enhanced version of auto-correct that will predict the word you're going to type next. And those suggestions will be based on who you're talking to – work-appropriate words for co-workers and more casual phrases for close friends.
Also on the keyboard front, iOS 8 will support third-party keyboard apps like Swype and SwiftKey.
If you want to get more personal, you can record an audio or video message using the microphone button, which will appear in-line on your friends' Message screen.
If you're ever been stuck in a never-ending group text, meanwhile, iOS 8 will let you add or remove people mid-conversation. And you can silence chats on a per-message basis if you want to stop the constant notifications.
Meanwhile, you can also share your location with people in a conversation – and specify how long your location will be made public.
The addition of Family Sharing lets you see your purchases, as well as the purchases of up to five other family members. And if your child wants to purchase something on the App Store or iTunes, a pop-up will tell them to ask for their parents' permission, and the parent will receive a text, asking you to grant permission.
iOS 8
iOS 8 also includes interactive Notifications. If you get a text or another reminder, you can just pull down and reply right there – no need to leave the app in which you're already working. It also works on the lock screen – pull across and select an action.
The tab view on Safari that was added to iPhone on iOS 7, meanwhile, is also coming to iPad. Apple's iOS 8 also picks up the sidebar from the new version of Mac OS X, Yosemite, adding things like bookmarks, reading list, and shared links in a left-hand menu.
A update to Mail will let you mark emails as unread, flagged, or deleted with a single gesture. Meanwhile, while you're composing an email, you can swipe the message down and go back to your inbox to get information. Then, just swipe the message up and continue writing – no need to save that email to drafts.
The rumored Healthbook app is actually HealthKit and the standalone Health app, which will let you keep tracks of health metrics like steps taken and calories burned. You can pull in third-party apps, like those from Nike. But it will also tap into health providers like Epic Systems and the Mayo Clinic so that patients can better share health information with their doctors.
These days, many people use their phone as their main camera, so every photo taken with an iOS 8 device will be available via iCloud. "Your device has access to more photos in the cloud than it can physically store locally so you can get at them all," Federighi said.
iOS 8 Photo App Federighi promised better search, letting you find pictures via location, photos taken near where you are now, taken a year ago, taken in your home, etc. Smart-editing controls for light and color, auto-straightening, and cropping will help make those shots Instagram-ready.
Users will get 5GB of free cloud storage, but get up to 20GB for 99 cents per month or 200GB for $3.99 per month, but Apple will support tiers up to 1TB.
Updates to Siri include the rumored Shazam integration, which lets Siri identify music around you and offer up the choice to purchase it via iTunes.
On the security front, those with the iPhone 5s will potentially be able to do more with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, as Apple is opening it up to third parties. Federighi promised that data will be saved on the device, so those companies will not gain access to your fingerprint.
For developers, Cook said apps can be sold in bundles for a discount, while listings will support videos so iOS users can get a sense of what they're downloading before buying. Cook also promised a better explore tab, a trending searches list, and related searches within the App Store. A new editors' choice logo will also apply to noteworthy apps.
Meanwhile, developers can invite people to test apps in beta via a new feature known as "Test Flight."
